Human and Animal Rights Policy

 
Dental Research Today is committed to ensuring the ethical treatment of human participants and animal subjects in research. Authors must adhere to the highest ethical standards and comply with all relevant laws and guidelines.

Research Involving Human Participants

1. Ethical Approval:
  • All research involving human participants must have been conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and approved by an appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board (IRB).
  • Authors must include a statement in the manuscript confirming that ethical approval was obtained, including the name of the ethics committee and the approval reference number.

2. Informed Consent:
  • Informed consent must be obtained from all participants or their legal guardians prior to their inclusion in the study.
  • The consent process should be described in the manuscript, and copies of consent forms may be requested during the review process.

3. Privacy and Confidentiality:
  • Authors must ensure that all identifying information about participants is removed from the manuscript unless explicit consent has been obtained.
  • Any potential risks to privacy must be disclosed to participants and minimized by the researchers.


Research Involving Animals

1. Ethical Standards:
  • Research involving animals must comply with relevant national and international guidelines, such as the International Association of Animal Behavior guidelines and the Animal Research: Reporting of In Vivo Experiments (ARRIVE) guidelines.
  • Authors must provide a statement confirming compliance with these guidelines and that ethical approval was obtained from Institutional animal care and use committee (IACUC) or equivalent body.

2. Humane Treatment:
  • The welfare of the animals must be considered at all times, with efforts made to minimize pain, distress, and suffering.
  • The use of animals should be justified, and the number of animals used should be minimized.

3. Description of Procedures:
  • The manuscript should include a detailed description of the procedures involving animals, ensuring transparency and reproducibility.
  • Any deviations from standard protocols must be clearly explained and justified.


Manuscript Requirements
  • Ethics Statement: Authors must include an Ethics Statement in the manuscript detailing ethical approval, informed consent, and measures taken to ensure the humane treatment of participants and animals.
  • Data Availability: Any restrictions on the availability of data and materials should be disclosed, with reasons provided for any limitations.

The journal reserves the right to request additional information from authors and to reject manuscripts that do not comply with these ethical standards.
